hope for north american evangelicals

Yes there is hope for North America evangelicals! At least it looks like it, since in a week they have gone against form twice. Some brave souls have crossed the Christian political right and come out in favor of doing something about global warming. Folks like Rick Warren, (Saddleback pastor who continues to put his money where his mouth is on critical social issues like aids) and Leith Anderson, are saying it is  time to really care for creation not just discuss the possibility. This issue has even brought together African American pastors like Bishop Charles E. Blake Sr. of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles, the Rev. Floyd Flake of the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in New York City.

"This is God’s world," the statement says, "and any damage that we do to God’s world is an offense against God himself."

Then the National Prayer Breakfast had Bono (read a transcriptmp3 audio) as the key speaker (actually I think he preached). Willow Creek’s Leadership Summit recently announced Bono as one of the keynote speakers. Could it be that a new evangelical is rising up to take back the faith? Only time will tell but for now it looks like hope.
