This summer while we were camping my youngest son caught the fishing bug. At first he could catch anything we tried worms and bread and lures but the fish either didn’t bite or got the bait and got away. Then the line got snarled and the reel broke. He was not a happy camper and really down on himself, despite me saying the fun of fishing was just fishing not needing to catch anything. Tell that to an eight year old who saw other boys his age and older catching fish in the from the same pond.

Then one morning I went to the store about ten miles from the campground bought a new fishing pole ( Pirates of the Caribbean) brought it back to him and we went fishing on our second to last day. Still no catch. Then using my boy scout training and knowledge (so he says) I noticed the hooks were pretty large for the size fish that were in the pond. So another trip to the store for smaller hooks, a few tips  and some encouragement and voila he caught one. Not a very big one mind you but he caught and he couldn’t have been happier. It was one of those MasterCard priceless moments.

Now three weeks later he is a pro and talking about going ocean fishing, though he still wouldn’t pick up his biggest catch yet with his own hands to throw it back. The old boy scout had to do that.
